Fitz dispels every myth you’ve heard about Cambridge. It’s a down to earth and welcoming college, with a diverse student body and thriving social life. Fitz incorporates the best of the old and the new. It’s a modern college that retains all the things that make Cambridge special, without being stuffy or old-fashioned. Our college is unique in Cambridge because it descends from a University scheme initiated in the nineteenth century to encourage student access from all backgrounds. Because of this, Fitz maintains the strong ethos that ability is the only thing that matters.

The academic staff provide a supportive and stimulating learning environment. Making sure you fulfil your potential is the college’s main priority, and our teaching facilities reflect this. Our brand new library is second-to-none. It has four floors of carefully designed work spaces, all the books you need, and it’s open 24/7. Although standards are high, Fitz has a supportive rather than competitive atmosphere, where you’re encouraged to work because you love your subject, not because you feel like you have to. At Fitz work definitely isn’t everything! One of the best things about college is that the atmosphere helps you strike a healthy balance between work and play.

At Fitz there is an endless supply of opportunities to get involved in, there’s sport, music and drama at all levels. So if you’re amazing at football, but you’ve never tried photography (or the other way around) Fitz will snap you up for both! If you can’t find what you’re looking for, all you have to do is set it up. Fitz dance, Yoga, and the Art Society are just a few things that have sprung up over the last year. If that all sounds too much like hard work, and you just want to chill-out with some like-minded people, there’ll always be something going on. The events organisers on the students’ union have their work cut out, from running club-nights and themed nights out, to acoustic sets in the bar. There’s something for everyone in college; weekly debates, films, and even a sports day. Once you’re here you’ll get to know the 2nd and 3rd years really well, as they run everything from freshers’ week, to the incredible Fitz Ball.

Modern, spacious, and well-equipped, Fitz easily provides for its students’ needs. The newly refurbished café is a great place to chat with friends, work ,or grab a massive slice of home-made cake! Sports wise, we’ve got two football pitches, a rugby pitch, cricket square, netball court, tennis courts, 3 squash courts, a gym – and more! We also have an auditorium, as well as music practice rooms and a wonderful chapel. We even have our own dark room, as well as an art room and a range of other rooms which can be rented out for student activities.

Best thing? The atmosphere

The modern college buildings surround a large eighteenth century house and beautiful gardens. In first year all 150 freshers live together, which creates an incredibly friendly atmosphere – The college facilities are right on your doorstep, and you can even see who’s in the bar and TV room! Roughly half the second years live in houses, which tend to have larger rooms and great gardens. These houses are across the road from college, so whilst having more independence you still get that college community feel. Third year rooms are back in the centre of college, and best of all, every room has an en-suite. All accommodation has kitchens, but you can also eat in the canteen which does special meals throughout the week, like Fitz Fry-Up, The Sunday Roast or the Waffle Wednesday.
Picking a college can be a daunting process, but know that in choosing Fitz you will find somewhere which will challenge, stretch and excite you academically whilst offering you the chance to make some of the best friends and best memories of your life – Fitz has it all!

Worst thing? There aren't any ancient buildings!
