Code of Conduct
This document sets out the parameters within which the Shadowing Scheme will run. It is intended to reassure those involved that the scheme will proceed in a responsible way. Students who break the guidelines and rules set out below will be asked to leave the scheme.
Drinking and Drugs
No participants under the age of eighteen are allowed to consume alcohol during the course of the scheme. The possession, consumption, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol is illegal and strictly forbidden.
Smoking
Smoking is forbidden inside all College and University buildings.
Accompanied time
All participants will spend their time in the company of their allotted undergraduate volunteer. If exceptional circumstances mean that any participant needs to spend time away from their volunteer, they will make sure that the volunteer is fully aware of where they will be, and when and where they will meet up. This requirement is without any admission of liability on the part of the volunteer.
Safety
Participants must make sure that upon arrival at the college they are staying in, they are made aware of the nearest fire exit, the procedure for reporting a fire, and the procedure upon hearing the alarm. It is expected that all guest rooms will contain a fire safety document.
Disclaimer
Whilst every effort will be made to ensure the safety and security of all those taking part in the scheme, the Cambridge University Students' Union regrets that it cannot take responsibility for those taking part, except where written policy has been breached. Participants will receive a high degree of supervision, and will spend the majority of their time with groups of students, and with their allotted undergraduate volunteer, whom they will 'shadow'. This notwithstanding, the fact that the majority of participants will travel to Cambridge unsupervised means that the scheme has to be treated as an individual, independent, trip. Hence, from the time that participants leave their home, they are required to take responsibility for their own safety.
